WANAQUE, N.J. — What started as a small collection for a food pantry 10 years ago has grown into a community dinner for 300 people in Wanaque.

A free Thanksgiving feast will be held at the Wanaque First Aid Squad building Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.

Organizer Robyn Talmage said all of the food is donated and will include traditional items -- turkey, stuffing, ham, potatoes and pies.

"The spread is amazing, it's a feast," Talmage, of Ringwood, told Daily Voice. "It's going to be a beautiful sight to see the community come together."

All are welcome, Talmage said.

The dinner is sponsored by Passion Church in Wanaque and neighboring St. Francis Church will also join.

Talmage said she helped feed about 75 people when she started volunteering at a food pantry a decade ago. A group of 10 people now helps her organize the larger effort now by cooking at their homes. Additional volunteers set up and serve the meals.

"I'm honored to serve the community and to be a part of reaching out and leaning on people to let them know that somebody cares, somebody's here for them," she said. "Just watching how it's grown and being a part of it, I think I'm the one who's blessed."

The dinner also includes a children's section with face painting and games.
