Reenactors and volunteers help to create a colonial green in front of Ringwood Manor. At 2:30 p.m., the Declaration of Independence will be delivered by horse and rider, and read aloud to the gathered crowd, as it would have been 240 years ago.
You will also be able to sign your own Declaration with a quill pen and ink, and join the militia and learn military drills. There will be colonial crafts and demonstrations, 18th-century baked goods, and free watermelon slices. There will also be a display about Robert Erskine -- ironmaster, inventor and map-maker during the Revolutionary War -- as well as celebratory dancing.
The event itself is free, but state park per-car parking fee applies -- $5 per car for in-state residents and $7 per car out-of-state residents.
Ringwood Manor will will be open, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for self-guided tours. The cost is $3 for adults, $1 for kids ages 6-12, and kids 5 and under are free.
