“I really feel so strongly about building inner strength,” Germershausen said, sitting on her mat in her sunny second-floor yoga studio in downtown Ramsey.

After going through a divorce, Germershausen rediscovered her inner strength and followed her heart.

The mother of two young daughters left a high-salary public relations job in New York City that didn’t make her happy, emptied her 401K, and poured the money into opening Zen Family Yoga in her hometown.

She said she told herself, “I believe in this so much, and I am not going to let the fear of failure stop me.”

In the almost two years that Zen Family Yoga has been up and running, Germershausen has been succeeding at teaching her students not only about yoga, but also about the importance of living with intention, thinking positively, and feeling grateful.

“The kids love it. They like to feel grateful,” she said.

Germershausen teaches yoga to children, teens, adults, families, and young people with behavioral health challenges, ADHD and autism.

The studio is especially popular with teenagers.

Germershausen draws in many teens from nearby communities like Allendale, Upper Saddle River, Franklin Lakes and Suffern with classes and summer camps.

Soon, she will begin to hold weekend camps, focused on building inner strength, for teens and children all year long. Teens participating in the program will have access to celebrity relationship expert, Dr. Gilda.

To kick off the new weekend camp program, Zen Family Yoga is partnering with Ivivva -- the sportswear store in the Garden State Plaza in Paramus – to host a free event on Sunday, Jan. 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It will take place at the studio, 21 Arch Street, Studio B, in Ramsey.

The event is designed for kids ages 5 to 11 and will include empowering crafts and yoga.
