Starting this week, patrons can drop new books off for kids ages 14 and younger. Children's Librarian Ann Marie Solch said they have been holding the drive for at least 18 years.

"People usually when they're out shopping they'll buy an extra couple of books," Solch told Daily Voice. "This way families that can't afford to buy them, the children will still have a new book in their hands for the holidays."

Last year the library collected 186 books, plus 148 in 2013, Solch said. About 20 books came in this year as of Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The books are distributed through Ringwood Center for Food Action.

The library asks the schools to help out, which usually brings in some more donations, Solch said.

Hard cover and paperback books are welcome. Holiday books are nice but not necessary, Solch said.

The book drive will run through Dec. 10.
