According to Sgt. Alan Armstrong, the accident, which occurred around 7:50 a.m. at 336 N. Broadway, has closed the roadway while police investigate the accident.

Armstrong said officers are not sure at this point why the tree fell on top of the car, bringing live electrical wires down with it.

The power company has disconnected the wires, but the road will remain closed during the investigation.

The accident happened in front of the Upper Nyack School, closing the school for the day, said school district officials.

Students who had already arrived for the day were sent to Nyack High School, school district officials said.
