WANAQUE, N.J. — A 41-year-old woman from Oakland was charged with third degree shoplifting after attempting to steal $500 worth of groceries from the Wanaque Stop and Shop, police said.
Sergeant Kevin LaCouture on May 2 was dispatched to the Union Avenue grocery store, where the store manager indicated the woman was attempting to leave with a cart full of groceries, according to Capt. Ken Fackina.
Patrol officer Louis Montegari assisted with an investigation, in which the woman in question admitted to trying to leave the store without paying after an investigation, police said.
After being advised she was under arrest, she refused to comply with officers' directions, and was then handcuffed and transported to headquarters for processing, Fackina said.
She was later released on her own recognizance pending a Superior Court appearance, authorities said.
