Wayne Bank Of America Error Leads To False Arrest, Dad Says

WAYNE, N.J. — A father is looking to help his daughter and the man who he says was wrongfully arrested after someone at the Wayne Bank of America erred.

Max Krchmar of Rochelle Park says his daughter, Larissa, sold her car to a man from Craigslist for $10,000 last month.

The pair went together to BOA's Hamburg Turnpike branch, where Krchmar says everything went seamlessly.

But when Larissa went back to the bank to take out the nearly $10,000 the bank had originally accepted, the teller told her she didn't like the looks of the check and that it wasn't valid, Krchmar said.

Bank officials urged Larissa to file a stolen vehicle report with police, which her father says led to the eventual arrest of the buyer.

After three weeks and dozens of phone calls to police and bank officials, a manager at Bank of America told Larissa they had erred and that the original check deposited was in fact valid.

"You cannot imagine how much stress, time and frustration was spent by my daughter and I and others trying to get this resolved," Krchmar said.

Bank of America Spokeswoman Tara Burke says that the bank does not comment on customer accounts or employees who moved to different locations.

The buyer was set to appear in court, but the judge was not able to provide Larissa with any more information until her car was released from impound.

"I don't know what's going on with the buyer," Krchmar said. "I'm sure he's more upset with my daughter.

"It was a pretty bad move on behalf of Bank of America."
