POMPTON LAKES, N.J. -- John J. Gabriel, of Pompton Lakes, died Aug. 30.
He was born in West New York to Marion and John Gabriel.
Before retiring, he worked as an inspector and was a member of Teamsters Local 64. He also owned and operated a restaurant and a deli. He was an avid sports enthusiast a happy and outgoing person.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene; sons, Wayne and daughter-in-law Cheryl and Benjamin; four grandchildren, Anthony, Brendan, Morgan and 4-year-old Riley, with whom he enjoyed playing cards, coloring and swimming.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland. There will be a funeral service at 8:30 p.m. Entombment will be Saturday, leaving from the funeral home at 10 a.m. to the Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington.
