New Milford police who heard an alert from a Bergen County sheriff's officer picked up the chase in the Faller Drive area along with officers from surrounding towns around 2:30 a.m., Detective Sgt. Kevin Van Saders said.

At one point in the chase, the driver -- identified as 22-year-old Zackery Rosario -- tried hitting three separate police vehicles, Van Saders said.

The chase continued through borough side streets before Rosario crashed into a New Milford police car at the intersection of Boulevard and Bulger Avenue, the sergeant said.

Officers quickly grabbed him when he tried to run, Van Saders said.

No injuries were reported, he added.

Rosario, a Ridgefield Park High School graduate, was charged with three counts each of aggravated assault on a police officer, eluding, flight and taking a motor vehicle without permission. He also received several summonses and was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing.

The chase began after the sheriff's officer, having heard an alert out of Oradell, spotted the car in New Milford. It was unclear why the initial alert was issued.CHECK BACK FOR MORE DETAILS
