Finding a man breaking into his car in his driveway, retired Wanaque Police Chief Jack Reno grabbed him and held him for uniformed officers.

Kevin Cunningham, 20, of Ringewood was charged with burglary and underage drinking. He was also wanted on warrants, Capt. Ken Fackina said.

Reno retired in 2012 after 34 years with the department -- nearly 20 as chief.

He still comes by the department at times and remains friendly with most of the staff, Fackina said.

"He was always a worker -- I can tell you that," the captain told Daily Voice, "from the day he started here until the day he retired.

"He liked getting out there and doing stuff. He was one of the old-timers, he wasn't much for sitting behind a computer."
