The 6-month-old German shepherd, named Anuba, fell through the ice about 75 yards offshore around 8 a.m., Fire Company No. 4 Chief Chris Page told Daily Voice.

Deputy Chief Darren Williams and Capt. Jeff Boltzer went onto the ice to get him, and Williams went into the water himself, Page said.

The dog resisted and tried to stay away from the firefighters. But after a few minutes they pushed the pooch back onto the ice and Anuba limped back to shore.

The dog was fine afterward, the chief said.

"All firefighters exited the water in good condition, just happy with the job they did," Page told Daily Voice.

The dog lived nearby and ran out behind the house to Lindy's Lake, Page said.

The owner was very thankful once the firefighters rescued Anuba, he said.
