WANAQUE, N.J. -- A Wanaque driver who fled a Pompton Lakes crash on two blown tires and the car's airbags deployed was charged with DWI, authorities said.
A Pompton Lakes police dispatcher notified Wanque police of reports of an erratic driver on northbound Ringwood Avenue around 5 p.m. Sunday, Capt. Kenneth Fackina said.
Officers Ed Schroeder and Lou Montegari stopped the car near Borough Hall.
Besides the blown tires and deployed air bags, the vehicle had extensive front-end damage from a crash in Pompton Lakes, Fackina said.
The 35-year-old driver failed a field test and was arrested.
He was released to a responsible adult pending a Municipal Court hearing in Wanaque on DWI charges and in Pompton Lakes on charges stemming from the crash.
