The victim was struck as she crossed Ringwood Avenue and Doty Road around 11:20 a.m. Thursdsay, Capt. Kenneth Fackina said.
"Witnesses at the scene indicated the pedestrian stepped out in front of the vehicle and the driver did not have time to stop," Fackina said Friday.
The victim was alert and conscious while being taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital with head trauma and other injuries, the captain said.
Officers, meanwhile, took the driver, Andrea Doot, into custody after finding a homemade marijuana pipe on the floor of the car, he said.
Doot was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and agreed to have blood taken, Fackina said.
Then she was released.
Fackina asked that anyone who might have witnessed the crash contact Officer Paul Carbone at the Wanaque Police Department: (973) 835-5600.
