WANAQUE, N.J. — Two Wanaque police officers will take to the stage Saturday night to help foster children lead a normal life.
Officers Brian Bellifemine and Jeff Heffernan will use their musical talents to raise money for Together We Rise, a non-profit organization for kids in foster care.
The show starts at 7 p.m. at the Wanaque First Aid Squad building. A $5 donation at the door goes directly to the cause and refreshments will be served.
Heffernan, who will play the guitar with his band, The Traveler, has made music the past 15 years.
"I love helping people, so if I can play music and help people at the same time, I think it's a beautiful thing," he told Daily Voice.
Bellifemine will play the piano but can jump in on just about any instrument.
Music is a popular topic at the Wanaque Police Department, Capt. Ken Fackina said.
"Brian and Jeff are really talented guys and I think it's great," Fackina said. "They're interested in getting out there and using it for more than hanging out. That's a great thing."
Rachel Burgess of Wanaque runs Together We Rise. The group collects stuffed animals, blanket, coloring books, crayons, and hygiene kits for foster children to help them as they move to temporary homes.
