You can still sign up online for this weekend’s Turkey Plunge for Special Olympics New Jersey at Cupsaw Lake in Ringwood until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow night.

“It is supposedly going to be a great weekend,” Bogota Police Chief John C. Burke said. “So if you have wanted to be a polar bear plunger, this is your chance to get off easy.”

Of course, you can always register at the event, but it helps organizers to know who’s coming. Temperatures are expected to push 50 degrees on a bright, sunny day.

On-site registration begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Participants take the plunge at noon, with a post-plunge all-you-can-gobble-up-buffet to follow 15 minutes later.

You don’t have to jump in the lake to support law enforcement’s efforts to help Special Olympics New Jersey provide free year-round training and competition in 24 Olympic-type sports to more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

You can donate and attend. There is also an  “After-Plunge Bash,” with food, refreshments, entertainment and a tricky tray.

And if you’re interested, Ringwood State Park and Skylands Botanical Gardens are right nearby. Bring the kids and make a day of it.

If you are 18 or under, you can plunge for a discounted rate of $50. You will need an initial deposit of $25 to get started.

If you’re over 18, you can plunge for a minimum of $100, but you only need a $25 deposit to get started.

Raise $100 and you’ll get a plunge sweatshirt.

Raise $50 or more and get a long sleeved t-shirt.

Rewards increase. Check one of the links below for more info.
