BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. — Two events this weekend will memorialize lifelong Bloomingdale resident and 23-year firefighter Bob Kochka, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Sept. 12, 2013.
The weekend kicks off with the 2nd Annual Cruise Night at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
The Cruise Night will honor Kochka's passion for motorcycles and classic cars and trucks at the Walter T. Bergen (WTB) School at 225 Glenwild Ave.
The 3rd Annual Bob Kochka 5K Run will be on Sat., Sept. 26, rain or shine, to benefit the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
The 11 a.m. race will begin at the WTB school and will be followed by the annual Pride Day event on the school's field.
A longtime employee for Comcast, Kochka himself raised money for worthy causes, working beefsteaks and dinners, while doing whatever his department needed.
He left a wife, Janet, and daughters Kacie and Kelly -- all of whom shared in his love for cars, truck and motorcycles.
Quick with a laugh or joke, Kochka was also an avid Harley Davidson rider and recruited fellow firefighters to ride with him.
