PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. -- As part of Passaic County's efforts to take a comprehensive approach to its Complete Streets program, the annual repaving initiative has seen a number of roadways receiving shared roadway markings, or "sharrows," to alert drivers that the presence of bicyclists can be expected.

The sharrows also serve as a visual guide for bicyclists, showing them how to safely navigate roadways and negotiate turns.

The  sharrows are comprised of two arrows above a bicycle graphic.

In some cases, the symbol is also placed inside a green box to maximize the visibility and durability of the marking.
