Woodland Park's Jersey Johnny's Ranks Among DVlicious Hot Dog Finalists

WOODLAND PARK, N.J. -- The classic hot dog, in all its bronzed, charred perfection, holds a special place in the hearts – and stomachs -- of most Americans, especially come summer. July, in fact, is National Hot Dog Month, thanks to the designation by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

The Heart Stopper at Jersey Johnny's is so loaded with bacon, jalapeno peppers and other toppings you can barely see the Thumann's weiner underneath.

Jersey Johnny's, 1750 Route 46, Woodland Park, (973) 837-8484

Frank Talk: The eatery touts its “classic New Jersey weiners” made by Thumann’s, which operates a plant in Jersey City, know for making both skinless and natural-casing pork and beef dogs that are gluten and MSG free.

Top This: Make sure you have plenty of napkins before you tackle Johnny’s’ Italian Dog, a delicious mess topped with potatoes, peppers and onions and, in a twist on the traditional bun, is served on pizza bread. Also on the tops of dog lovers’ lists are the All The Way (chili, onions, mustard); the Cuban (ham, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles); and the Heart Stopper, which is so piled with bacon, cheese, chili, onions, mustard, jalapeño peppers AND hot sauce that you can barely see the weiner underneath.
