“My mom, Michele, was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia,” Sarah Yeldham wrote on a GoFundMe page she created with her brother, Steven.
“It was truly a heartbreak to my family, especially because she is such a strong woman,” she wrote.
Sarah wrote that Michelle is self-employed, and provides the sole source of income for her own and Steven’s college tuition that is not covered by loans, in addition to food and utilities.
“Since she is self-employed, she won't have any income for the 7 weeks she'll be in the hospital to receive chemotherapy and to recover.
"Once she's in remission, there's a chance she'll have to go for a second round,” Sarah wrote.
“Please help my family by donating any amount in order to keep us afloat,” Sarah wrote.
More than $1,500 had been donated by Monday afternoon.
