Passaic County Sheriff Named 'Man Of Year' By PBA

PATERSON, N.J. -- Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik was honored as Man of the Year by Passaic County PBA Local 14.

During five years so far in office, Berdnik has focused on quality-of-life initiatives such as narcotics enforcement, prostitution raids and increasing video cameras to reduce crime and catch criminals, the local noted.

He has developed children programs -- among them, the Junior Sheriff’s Academy -- increased gang awareness and boosted an Internet Crime Unit to keep children safe from online predators.

Berdnik spent 28 years with the Clifton Police Department, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

He has received various awards, including a Meritorious Service Medal, an Honorable Service Medal and a Life Saving Medal.
