BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. — Bloomingdale police officers will look scruffier over the next few weeks by participating in No-Shave November.
A first for the department, the campaign seeks $25 donations from the participants, in addition to any civilians they can get to take part.
The money raised will go to several organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"It's going to be interesting to see who's going to have a full beard by the end of the month," Smith told Daily Voice. "But I think it will be fun and it's supporting a good cause."
The department established an online fundraiser to gather more donations, with a goal of $1,500.
Smith said the force has received support from beyond the ranks.
Each day, 22,000 people die of cancer, according to the World Health Organization. No-Shave November aims to grow awareness by embracing hair, which many cancer patients lose.
