From strong schools and health care to high incomes and low crime, several Northeast states are among the best places to live, according to a new study.
WalletHub released its 2026 Best States to Live In list on Monday, Aug. 10. The study ranked all 50 states using 51 measures of livability, from housing affordability and income growth to education, health, quality of life, and safety.

Man Burglarizes Ex's Home, Caught With Help From K9, Drones In Hudson Valley: Police
A 29-year-old man accused of burglarizing his ex's home in Rockland County was apprehended after an extensive search involving police drones and K9 units, authorities said.
The search began at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, when officers responded to the area of Campbell Avenue in Ramapo while searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a reported burglary at a residence on the same street, Ramapo Police announced on Monday, Aug. 10.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jose Victor Jimenez-Rivera, is the former husband of the victim, police said.

Dump Truck With Raised Bed Snags Wires, Flips Over In Hudson Valley
A dump truck overturned in Dutchess County after its raised body caught overhead wires, lifting the front of the truck off the ground, police said.
The incident happened in LaGrange, New York State Police announced on Monday, Aug. 10.
According to police, the dump truck was driven from a yard while its dump body was still raised.
As the truck moved, its cab guard caught overhead communication lines, causing its front axle to lift off the ground, State Police said. The truck then rolled onto its passenger side.
