Motorcyclist Killed In Wayne Crash Was Pompton Lakes Police Sergeant

POMPTON LAKES, N.J. – A Pompton Lakes Police officer was killed early Wednesday morning, after his motorcycle hit a deer in Wayne.

Sgt. Peter J. Kamper, 40, was pronounced dead at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, police said.

Condolences and messages of support began to come in Wednesday for Kamper’s family and his colleagues on the Pompton Lakes Police Department.

“Oakland PBA Local 164 sends our condolences to the family of Sgt Peter Kamper and the officers of the Pompton Lakes Police Department. May he rest in Peace,” Oakland PBA Local 164 wrote in a Facebook post.

Kamper was traveling East on Lakeside Avenue on his Harley Davidson, when he struck the deer just after 12 a.m., police said.

The crash is under investigation by the Wayne Police Traffic Bureau. Anyone who may have information related to the crash is asked to contact the Wayne Police Department Traffic Bureau at 973-633-3520.
