Officer John Galinus stopped the vehicle for an equipment violation on Ringwood Avenue near Conklintown Road just after midnight June 14, Capt. Ken Fackina said.

Galinus was talking with the driver when he smelled raw pot from inside the car, then noticed the passenger "moving around a lot and appearing very nervious," he said.

Officer James Cappello and Sgt. Kevin LaCouture responded as backups, after which some of the drugs were found -- along with a bottle of pills prescribed to someone else, Fackina said.

While processing the passenger, 25-year-old Tyler Shortway of Weatherly, PA, police found seven more bags of heroin in his socks, the captain said.

He was charged with various drug offenses, as was the driver, 20-year-old Sean Denny of Greenwood Lake, N.Y., Fackina said.

Both were released pending a court date, he said.
