The woman, who was walking across the Bear Mountain Bridge, was mistaken for a possible bridge jumper by a passing motorist who reported the sighting to state police.

Troopers responded to the bridge around 3:45 p.m. after receiving the call from the motorist who reported the woman was mid-span on the bridge, state police said.

When troopers arrived to speak with the woman, she told them she was simply taking a walk and enjoying the scenery, said Trooper Melissa McMorris.

"It's good news to report this time," McMorris said. "But we always encourage calls if a person is spotted on the bridge."
