WAYNE, N.J. — The West Milford vs. Lakeland Second Annual Ice Hockey Alumni Game will benefit anyone battling ALS -- — a progressive neuro-degenerative condition commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease" -- especially Wayne resident and former ice hockey player Gary Ragusa.
Proceeds from the 8:30 p.m. game at the Ice Vault Arena in Wayne will benefit "Team Goose." (SEE: Supporters Assist Wayne Athlete In Big Skate Against ALS ).
Ragusa was honored Saturday night at a benefit hockey game hosted by the New Jersey Devils, thanks to his teammate and former NHL defender Bruce Driver.
A GoFundMe account established by Ragusa's co-worker, Michael Riga, had raised nearly $20,000 as of Nov. 24 — exceeding the $15,000 goal.
All funds raised will go toward making the Ragusa Family's home handicap-accessible.
"Support from friends, family and the community is overwhelming," Ragusa said.
